The Credit Union House on Capitol Hill is a vision of what credit union people can accomplish in a cooperative effort. That vision succeeded on a smaller scale during the historic campaign to pass the Credit Union Membership Access Act of 1998. CUNA rented space near Capitol Hill to serve as a nerve center of activity for credit union CEOs, staff, leagues and volunteers preparing for visits with lawmakers. It also provided temporary office facilities and a place to exchange strategic information following congressional visits. The Credit Union House offers a convenient location to hold "meet and greets," luncheons, receptions, and town hall meetings. The Credit Union House serves as a central point for education seminars, timely distribution of briefing materials, and logistical coordination that is superior to anything currently in the credit union movement. It provides our three-tiered system (CUNA, leagues, and credit unions) with a tangible and visible presence in our nation’s capitol.
