What Is Credit Union House?

Credit Union House (CU House) is an elegant, federal-style townhome located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. It is a symbol of the strength and permanence of the credit union movement on the national scene.

The concept of CU House took shape following a major legislative battle in 1998. State credit union leagues, the America Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL), and CUNA resolved to increase credit unions’ political involvement and advocacy efforts at the national level. Today, CU House provides both a physical presence that sends a message of permanency, as well as a “home away from home” for credit union advocates who come to DC to share their message.

By supporting CU House through annual contributions, you also support credit union advocacy efforts.

A Symbol of Involvement

The legislative environment today demands that credit unions remain vigilant and fully engaged in the democratic process. It is at Credit Union House that CUNA, league officials, and credit union representatives gather to plan meetings with lawmakers, construct legislative strategies, and share feedback from visits with key legislative contacts. It is here that visiting credit union members find everything needed to support the pursuit of vital legislative initiatives.

The Vision

The credit union movement was built on cooperative efforts, so too was Credit Union House. A result of a major legislative battle in 1998 and a resolution to increase credit unions’ political involvement and advocacy efforts at the national level, the idea was born for a dedicated facility just blocks from the Capitol. CU House turned that dream into a beautiful brick-and-mortar reality.

The credit union movement supported the construction and development of this facility and continues to support its operations. The vitality of Credit Union House depends on that continued support.
